Supports say the trade measure will be cleared by the end of the month.
The Central America Free Trade Agreement could be a reality as soon as the end of July if House supports of the measure have their say. They told Reuters this week that despite strong opposition to Democrats on the measure the trade agreement will pass.
While the measure has yet to be scheduled for a vote the wire service report notes that House leadership wants to take up the measure before the August recess. The process for the trade measure requires House action in a specified amount of time as well.
The Senate passed the measure ahead of the July 4 break by a 54-45 vote.
House opposition is stronger in part because of concerns by Democrats over labor and sugar policy issues that may be impacted by the measure.
