It seems the economic stimulus package is on the fast track to the President's Desk. The House is expected to vote on the final package worth $789 billion by mid-day Friday followed by a Senate vote later in the afternoon or evening.
House Democratic leadership spent Thursday evening urging some of the skeptical members of their caucus to support the package, going over the bill with members to assure them that they hadn't lost anything in negotiations with the Senate and the measure will create jobs to help turn around the economy.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said that she hoped for more House Republican support on the floor Friday than on the original House version which every Republican member opposed. House GOP leadership sources said that was a real possibility, predicting as many as 20 Republicans might support the stimulus package.
