It is likely the U.S. Senate will be focused on the health care debate when members return from their August recess next Tuesday. Meanwhile, the climate change debate has been pushed back from its mid September deadline. The climate change debate will not happen until later this month. President Barack Obama has asked the House and Senate to deliver him a bill by Oct. 15.
Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., and Senate Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass., say the health care debate and the death of Senator Edward Kennedy will likely continue center stage for a while. So they don't expect their legislation to be debated until later this month. Another climate change bill being pushed forward by Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., will be ready by Sept. 15, if bipartisan negotiations he has been conducting do not produce a deal.
