Haying Now Allowed on CRP Ground

Emergency grazing has been extended to include haying.

In June, Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer approved emergency grazing of Conservation Reserve Program ground in counties that received Presidential declarations due to flooding as well as contiguous counties. According to Farm Service Agency Deputy Administrator John Johnson that emergency grazing announcement has been extended.

"We've gotten past the nesting dates in most of these states so the Secretary is now authorizing emergency haying of CRP ground in these same counties that received Presidential declarations for disasters due to flooding," Johnson says.

Landowners who take advantage of this provision will have their CRP rental rates reduced by 25%. In order to apply, producers must work with the Natural Resources Conservation Service to modify conservation plans to describe exactly how haying will take place. For more information about emergency haying of CRP ground, visit your local FSA office.
