Get the Most Out of Your Corn Stalks

Match animal size and numbers with available stalks to capture a profit.

This year's early harvest left a landscape of corn stalks begging to be turned into profits. You'd like to put some cattle on the stalks, but want to find the program that best utilizes the available resources. The University of Nebraska developed a spreadsheet that matches livestock size and numbers with corn stalk acres needed, providing you with total anticipated costs, costs per day and costs per head. It also breaks it down by cost of nutrients consumed for managing supplement costs.

The 138 kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007 or Excel XP. You can download it by clicking on the link below.

Do you have a spreadsheet that’s made a difference on your operation that you’d be willing to share with other readers? Drop us a line at FarmFutures@farmprogress.com with a description of the spreadsheet. We’ll pay $75 if we feature your farmer-written non-commercial program as our Spreadsheet of the Month.

It would be nice to access all of the spreadsheets of the month on this website. Why are they not available?
