Full Market Resolution Passes Senate

Senators are pushing for acceptance of U.S. beef.

Published: May 31, 2010

The U.S. Senate has passed a resolution urging China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mexico and Vietnam to follow international guidelines and provide full market access to all U.S. beef products. The authors of the resolution are Senators Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., Max Baucus, D-Mont., and Mike Johanns, R-Neb.

Johanns said this sends a clear, bipartisan message that the U.S. expects our trading partners to live by internationally-accepted standards, which means opening their markets to U.S. beef. He says they need to completely remove their baseless bans on U.S. beef and beef products.

Baucus said the science clearly proves U.S. beef is entirely safe. He says he will not stand for unscientific and unfounded barriers that hurt hardworking ranchers. Lincoln added the resolution is an important step in the fight to open these markets to U.S. beef.
