After the surprising resignation of Doug Caruso as Farm Service Agency Administrator on Wednesday, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack moved quickly and announced the appointment of Jonathan Coppess to fill the vacancy onThursday.
"Jonathan Coppess brings a wealth of agricultural policy experience to USDA's leadership team," Vilsack said. "His farm background will be invaluable as President Obama and I work to assure the soundness of the safety net for American farmers and ranchers."
Coppess previously worked for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson, D-Neb., as his legislative assistant for Agriculture, Energy and Environmental policy and practiced law in Chicago for four years prior to that.
