U.S. exports are increasing like never before. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns told the audience at a Senate Trade Rally Monday that exports of agricultural products alone this year is expected to be a record $79 billion and the forecast for next year is another record at $83 billion.
Johanns joined Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), and U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab at the meeting on Capitol Hill to urge support of four pending free trade agreements with Peru, Columbia, Panama and South Korea.
Schwab told the gathering the four trade agreements promise to create commercial opportunities for American farmers, and Johanns said they not only are good for agriculture but are good for the nation.
