Food Aid Conference Set for April

USDA and USAID to host 11th annual International Food Aid Conference.

USDA and the U.S. Agency for International Development will host the 11th Annual International Food Aid Conference in Kansas City, Mo., April 6 to 8. Theme for this year's conference is "Fighting Hunger in an Era of Global Economic Crisis.

Speakers include Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack; Tony Hall, former U.S. Congressman and Ambassador to the U.N. Agencies in Rome, and Allan Jury, Director of U.S. Relations, World Food Program. Additional speakers will come from private, voluntary non-governmental and international organizations involved in global food security, food and agricultural companies, trade associations, the transportation industry, academia, and government.

The International Food Aid Conference provides a forum to discuss policy and operational issues related to the delivery of food aid, as well as ways to improve communication and cooperation among those involved in food aid delivery, including: government, private voluntary and non-government organizations, and agricultural and transportation industry representatives. The conference also will give food aid representatives an opportunity to discuss food security and access, emergency and chronic food aid, agricultural development, public-private partnerships, the 2008 Farm Bill, trends in commodity and energy supply and demand, nutrition, and supply chain management.
