Consumers won't be finding cheap orange juice at the story anytime soon. As farmers across the country know, supply and demand fundamentals rule the final price of any food-based product. That's especially true this winter as Florida producers keep getting hammered by hard freezes.
While falling temps didn't impact the state as badly as first thought, chances are good consumers will still feel the pinch. Losses for the region have been estimated at more than $115 million, but that number could continue to climb.
The second freeze, now hitting the region, could have a greater impact on orange juice prices. Already the price for a half-gallon in some metro super markets has topped $3. But consumers haven't seen the top end of the price yet, it may be two to three months before that cost hits consumers.
