Published: Jun 30, 2010

The first Senate Ag Committee Farm Bill hearing is Wednesday and will focus on maintaining a strong U.S. farm policy to protect the nation’s food supply. Chairman Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., says the farm bill is one of the most important pieces of legislation Congress considers on behalf of rural America and U.S. farmers and ranchers. She says the nation’s food security; millions of jobs and a good share of the economy depend on what farmers and ranchers do every day.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson, American Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman and a handful of producers are slated to testify. The hearing begins at 8:30 Central time.
