Fine Tune Your Auto Steer

Increase fieldwork efficiency with proper settings.

Published: May 14, 2010

Looking for an easier way to set a desired angle for fieldwork using your auto-steer? Doug Thompson of Atlanta, Illinois developed a spreadsheet to do so quickly and effi-ciently. The spreadsheet calculates the angle of adjustment needed, while also creating a table containing a range of angles for various field lengths and offset amounts based on your inputs.

He also added a calculation to adjust for the end-row width in the field so that the proper angle is achieved for the actual pass length. The table can be printed and taken to the field.

The 43-kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007 or Excel XP

Do you have a spreadsheet that’s made a difference on your operation that you’d be willing to share with other readers? Drop us a line at FarmFutures@farmprogress.com with a description of the spreadsheet. We’ll pay $75 if we feature your farmer-written non-commercial program as our Spreadsheet of the Month.
