Through the Living to Serve program the National FFA Organization is awarding more than $130,000 to local chapters to encourage community service and civic engagement in rural areas. The funding for Living to Serve is provided by grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
"We believe in the power behind these programs and have increased the number of grants offered," says Damon Spight, Program Manager for the National FFA Organization. "Some of these opportunities have been available in the past. But with increased dollar amounts and an easier application process, we hope to see a boost in participation from teachers and students."
Several different programs are available under the Living to Serve that allow FFA members to expand or start community development and service projects that include outreach and education, public relations and diversity focus.
