Federal Milk Marketing Orders Amended

USDA issues interim final rule for manufacturing allowances.
Compiled by staff
Published: Jul 31, 2008

The interim final rule amending manufacturing allowances for Class III and Class IV dairy products in all Federal milk marketing orders was issued by the USDA Wednesday. Based on testimony at three listening sessions last year, the rule adopts allowances for cheese of $0.2003 per pound; $0.1715 per pound for butter; $0.1678 per pound for non-fat dry milk; and for dry whey $0.1991 per pound. This decision also increases the butterfat yield factor of the butterfat price from 1.20 to 1.211.

The interim rule will be published in the Federal Register on Thursday, July 31, 2008 and goes into effect on Sept. 1, 2008. Public comments on the interim rule must be submitted before Aug. 19 and USDA will issue a final rule after reviewing comments.
