President Barrack Obama has pushed the issue of increasing broadband access to underserved areas of the nation and the wheels are in motion to facilitate that goal. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 tasked the Federal Communications Commission with developing a national plan to ensure that every American has broadband capability.
The FCC is seeking input from all stakeholders from consumers to governments and industry to small businesses. The Recovery Act wants several elements of use and distribution explored. Some of the different items FCC is seeking comments on are effective and efficient ways to ensure broadband access to all Americans; affordability and utilization strategies; grant programs; and how to use broadband to advance public needs.
The plan, which will serve as a road map on the way to this goal, must be delivered to Congress by Feb. 17, 2010.
