Farm Story to be Told Across Key TV Networks

U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance partners with Discovery Communications to help Americans learn more about their food.

Published: Nov 25, 2011

The landmark U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance is expanding its effort to tell the farm story across the United States. The group - a coalition of key ag, food and input suppliers - is targeted at bringing a lot of resources to bear on telling the story of modern commercial agriculture that engages farming and ranching nationwide.

Now that farming and ranching story will be told on several networks of the Discovery Communications family. That means folks watching the Discovery Channel, TLC (formerly The Learning Channel), Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, Science, Discovery Fit & Health and Planet Green will see one of a series of videos of farmers telling their stories.

The farm-focused videos feature different farmers and ranchers talking with consumers and telling them about their operations, how they raise crops and livestock and the technology and management involved. It's an opportunity to raise the dialogue with the consumer to a higher level. The group, which kicked off its national effort earlier this year with the Food Dialogues Town Hall meetings, is pushing the message farther with this new effort.

You can check out all the farm and ranch videos by visiting www.fooddialogues.com/food-discoveries.

The site also contains useful information including farm-consumer survey data about consumers' priorities, including some interesting findings. For example, 64% of consumers responding to the survey say keeping food prices low is very important. And 79% say producing healthy choices for all consumers is very important for farmers and ranchers to consider when planning farming and ranching practices. Be sure to click into that survey to learn more.

USFRA was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Chesterfield, Mo. The organization represents more than 50 leading farmer- and rancher-led organizations and agricultural partners. The Alliance includes prominent agricultural groups at the national, regional and state levels that have collaborated to lead the dialogue about America's farmers' and ranchers' commitment to continuous improvement and best production practices.
