Incoming House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns will speak about the 2007 Farm Bill Jan. 8 during the annual meeting of the American Farm Bureau Federation in Salt Lake City.
With the current farm bill expiring in September 2007, the next bill is a hot topic.
"Addressing the expiration of the current farm bill will be one of Farm Bureau's biggest priorities in the coming year," says AFBF President Bob Stallman. "Chairman Peterson's remarks and insight will be invaluable and timely for participants at the AFBF farm bill conference."
Peterson will address a special session dealing with the 2007 Farm Bill, covering such issues as extension of the current bill and ethanol's impact on commodity programs.
Johanns will speak during the afternoon general session. AFBF expects about 4,000 farmers and ranchers to attend the 88th annual meeting.
