Farm Bill Mandates County Level Survey of Cash Rents

New cash rental surveys being sent out this week.

Published: Oct 13, 2008

Farmers will receive the usual annual USDA survey in December for various commodities, but according to National Agricultural Statistics Service's Carol House, a new survey that addresses cash rental rates at the county level will be going out this week and be in the field until the end of the year.

"Now we've been collecting cash rental rates at the state level for some time," House says. "But really in order for USDA to effectively administer a number of programs, and specifically the Conservation Reserve Program, they really need to know what's going on locally on the land rental market."

House says in addition all year-end surveys will have questions about cash rents. Surveys can be mailed in or filled out online at www.nass.usda.gov.
