Exports of Soybeans Set New Record

International marketing programs help increase exports.

Published: Oct 17, 2007

The 2006-2007 marketing year that ended Aug. 31 was very good to U.S. soybean farmers as a new record of 1.11 billion bushels of soybeans were exported.

The three largest importers of U.S. soybeans were China, Mexico and Japan, importing more than half of the record setting total.

"U.S. soybean farmers are listening and responding to the needs of international buyers," says Terry Ecker, USB International Marketing chair and soybean farmer from Elmo, Mo. "We realize that these customers are buying more than just soybeans, they are buying the protein and oil within the soybeans. It is important that we continue to provide them with the quality soybeans they expect."

The soybean checkoff is continuing to grow new markets for soybeans and the 2008 marketing year is off to a good start with more than 297 million bushels of soybeans already committed to foreign markets.
