Published: Oct 8, 2010

As U.S. ethanol production grows, so too is the production and use of distillers grains. To address the issues faced by such growth markets, nearly 500 producers, suppliers, importers and end-users from around the world have gathered in Chicago for the Export Exchange. This event, co-sponsored by the Renewable Fuels Association and the U.S. Grains Council, is known as the place to get answers, make contacts, and build business. Discussion will focus on issues such as: potential trade barriers, quality improvements and new evolutions in technology.

"It is essential to our industry that we work with our trading partners and friends in livestock to develop good relationships and open new markets for distillers grains," said RFA President and CEO Bob Dinneen.

Significant developments in the international DDGS market have led to rapid expansion. USGC President and CEO Thom Dorr points out the U.S. went from virtually no DDGS exports to more than 5 million metric tons in just five years. The United States is expected to export roughly 7.5 to 8-million tons this year with the largest markets in Mexico, Canada and China.
