Commission urges five countries to approve GM maize and oilseed rape types.
Five countries in the European Union are being urged to end bans on biotech corn and oilseed rape varieties.
According to Dow Jones, the European Union Commission wants Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, France and Greece drop their bans on approved biotech products that the European Food Safety has already deemed safe.
Farm ministers from all European Union countries must still approve the Commission proposal, which a statement from the Commission says it doesn't have those needed votes.
If the farm ministers can't agree on the ban, the Commission can require national governments to end their national bans within 20 days.
