The European Union is initiating an investigation concerning what it calls the possible circumvention of anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of biodiesel originating in the United States. The EU is charging that imports were blends of 20% or less of biodiesel originating in the United States of America, blended with biodiesel consigned from Canada and Singapore. Such imports are subject to registration.
The 25X"25 project says it's the existence of the $1-per-gallon tax credit, which hasn't been implemented since Jan. 1, that is prompting the EU investigation. European officials say they are looking at whether biodiesel originating in the United States is being shipped to EU countries through Canada and Singapore, avoiding tariffs on U.S. biodiesel.
