Ethanol Supporters Get Proactive

Renewable fuel organizations are joining together to fire the first salvo in the expected debate over food versus fuel.

The American Coalition for Ethanol, Growth Energy, the National Corn Growers Association, and the Renewable Fuels Association are taking the bull by the horns and have released a statement designed to temper any anti-renewable voices, before an alliance of anti-renewable fuel voices can again bring up the food verses fuel debate.

In part, the statement charges that these groups that have repeatedly attacked ethanol without validation would leave America with just one course of action -  increasing our addiction to foreign oil.

"Constantly pining for fictional fuels or seeking to keep America hooked on the oil standard runs contrary to the desire most Americans have to become energy independent.  These groups are recycling tired rhetoric that does nothing to help solve America's energy problems."

The statement points out that America's investment in renewable ethanol has returned more to the federal government in the form of tax revenue than is spent in investment, and saves the economy billions of dollars in foreign oil expense.

"It's not surprising that the corporate interests which have profited by hiking the grocery bills of everyday American families would continue to promote the widely unproven 'food versus fuel' fiction."
