The new Hot Wheel is no toy car, but an important tool in keeping an eye on wheel bearing conditions and temperatures.
Produced by ESCO, Hot Wheel is an adhesive-backed label that features a white arrow, until it's exposed to temperatures higher than 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, it turns orange permanently to alert drivers and operators that the wheel in question has been hot -- and needs attention. Once the problem has been corrected, a new Hot Wheel must be installed.

Esco's Hot Wheel attaches directly on the wheel near the hub to measure go-no-go temperature. Once the temp rises above 250 degrees F. the marker turns orange permanently, alerting the operator problems are afoot.
A normal Hot Wheel, left, and one that has been exposed to high operating temperatures.
