A proposed rule could raise the emissions threshold for corn milling plants that produce ethanol for fuel to up to 250 tons per year of air pollutants before triggering tougher restrictions on production.
The Environmental Protection Agency proposed a rule that would raise the standard from 100 to 250 tons per year. Currently corn milling plants that produce ethanol for human consumption have a higher emissions threshold than those that produce ethanol fuel.
The EPA will gather comments on the proposed rule for 60 days.
