Energy Policy Review Requested by 25x'25

Nuclear plant damage in Japan signals need for looking at bioenergy.
Compiled by staff
Published: Mar 21, 2011

A statement released by the 25X'25 Alliance says its members and the leadership share in the world's concern for the well-being of the Japanese people in the face of these times of tremendous loss and danger. The events of the past week have given most of us the occasion to think about the risks we all face in our daily existence and how we choose to deal with those risks.

One of the major concerns in Japan is how to control the problem with two nuclear power plants that were damaged from the earth quake and resultant tsunami . Nations around the world are concerned about their own plants. Asking themselves if they are ready to face a similar fate. Some are saying no, others are more cautious about their response.

The 25x'25 Alliance says policy makers should take current events as a fresh opportunity to examine the bioenergy resources that our agricultural and forestry sectors provide. Alliance leaders believe that elected leaders should review and adopt the policies and funding mechanisms that reduce market uncertainty for these relatively new technologies, helping to guarantee our energy security, particularly in a time when natural catastrophe and political turbulence alter the world's energy horizon.
