On Tuesday Deputy Undersecretary for Rural Development Douglas Faulkner was appointed acting head of Rural Development by Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer. Faulkner, who has been the deputy since 2006, takes over because of Tom Dorr's resignation effective Dec. 1.
"I am pleased that Doug has stepped up to lead Rural Development, providing continuity with his highly-qualified expertise to serve the needs of rural communities," said Schafer. "His work in directing and developing Rural Development initiatives has led to job creation and opportunities for people in small towns throughout America."
Faulkner has served in the Bush Administration in various capacities since 2001, most notably in the Department of Energy. He will be acting undersecretary until President-elect Obama nominates a new undersecretary.
