Deal Struck by Senate on Farm Bill

Debate will finally begin on 2007 Farm Bill, after cloture vote on Energy Bill.

Published: Dec 7, 2007

Late Thursday night a deal was reached by Senate leadership to move the debate of the Farm Bill forward with both parties allowed 20 amendments. Before debate is started, the cloture vote that was scheduled for Friday on the farm bill is being switched to the Energy Bill that was passed Thursday by the House.

The Senate has two weeks until the Christmas break to pass the two bill, both of which carry the threat of a Presidential veto. The main issue the administration has with the House's Energy Bill is a requirement of 15% renewable electricity standard.
