DDGS Export Demand Up

USGC is succeeding in overseas marketing.
Compiled by staff
Published: Dec 10, 2009

U.S. Grains Council efforts to increase export markets for distillers dried grains with solubles are increasing profitability for corn growers and the ethanol industry. The growing international popularity of DDGS demonstrates how innovative uses, in addition to increased yields, help corn growers meet demands for feed, food and fuel.

Recently, USGC efforts to demonstrate the viability of DDGS as a nutritious, economical and efficient feed source for a variety of livestock have also led to success in Indonesia and Taiwan. By targeting major markets with growing populations, DDGS promotion efforts reach audiences with growing demand for quality feed and therefore maximize the effectiveness of farmers' marketing dollars.

Indonesian feed producers recently made the country's first DDGS purchase, totaling 500 tons. Efforts to continue marketing in this country will focus on the many small layer and dairy operations that mix their own feed and who, through cooperative bulk purchasing, might find DDGS an attractive option as studies have shown that it could reduce feed costs by up to 15%.
