Crops Can Co-Exist for Food and Fuel

The increase in biofuel production is raising the demand for corn and other crops. However USDA Chief Economist says yields are increasing rapidly.

"We are already seeing that with the tremendous advances in genetic traits in corn," Collins says. "And then we've got the technology developments that will allow the conversion of biomass products into cellulosic ethanol. That technology needs a lot of work, but I'm counting on that coming."

Collins says those new technology will help developing countries because they will be able to produce biofuels from their native crops without necessarily competing for food supplies.
