Senator Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, believes it is time to reconsider oil and gas drilling on the pristine coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. With the Gulf oil spill of 2010 still fresh in minds, the refuge may be the last place anyone would want to drill. But some are starting to believe it might be necessary.
The problem is unrest in the Middle East which is helping drive up the price of oil, threatening to slow down economic recovery and making it more likely that Congress will debate energy policy sometime this year.
Alaska's politicians have spent the past two decades trying to persuade their colleagues in Washington to allow ANWR drilling.
