Could Budget Compromise Be Near?

In Washington, D.C., its crunch time as Capitol Hill lawmakers seem to be leaning to a compromise continuing resolution that could fund the federal government through the end of the current budget year. It appears discussions are centered on cutting $33 billion from federal spending.  Decisions remain on which programs to cut. Non-defense discretionary spending finds itself at the middle of discussions.

The staff from the Appropriations committees and the Office of Management and Budget worked over the weekend and got close to the $33 billion figure. Both House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and President Obama have endorsed the plan. It is expected to be introduced as early as Tuesday. Then House and Senate members will be polled to learn which way they are leaning on the bill.
