Continued Stall of Farm Bill
Senators recessed for Thanksgiving with no action on the Farm Bill and failure to limit debate.

Several organizations have voiced disappointment in the failure of Friday's cloture vote to limit debate and move the Farm Bill forward.
"Continued delay will make it difficult to complete action on the Farm Bill by the end of this year, leaving farmers and others up in the air about critical Farm Bill programs," says Julie Sibbing, the National Wildlife Federation's Senior Program Manager for Agriculture Policy.
Ron Litterer, National Corn Growers Association president says they are optimistic that meaningful action from the Senate can still advance the legislation this year.
"With the holiday season upon us, legislative work days are few," says National Farmers Union President Tom Buis. "The current Farm Bill expired on Sept. 30, so with no plan in place to move forward, we must get the Senate to act quickly when they return."
The Senate will reconvene the first week of December. Senator Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, the Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, says the bill is going to get done. He says the Senate will be working over the phone during the break to try to move it forward.
"I'm hopeful that when we come back, shortly thereafter we will have an agreement and then we can move ahead on this bill," Harkin says.
