Lawmakers approved a measure late Friday to avoid shutting the government down. A one week continuing resolution through Friday, April 15, 2011 was passed. It's approval was based on a solution to the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget. Congressional and White House negotiators have reportedly agreed on a plan to pay for government operations through the end of September while trimming $38.5 billion in spending.
The details of that new spending plan are now being written into legislation. Reports are that approval of the deal is expected mid-week. The measure legislators approved will keep the government running in the meantime.
