Congress Attemps to Stop EPA
Legislation would take away agency's ability to regulate greenhouse gasses.

Energy and Commerce Chair Fred Upton, D-Mich., and Senate Environment Committee Ranking Member James Inhofe, R-Okla., have teamed up to strip the EPA of its power to regulate greenhouse gases, what they consider a backdoor cap and trade tax, by introducing the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011.
American Farm Bureau Regulatory Specialist Rick Krause is encouraged by the latest several efforts to reign in EPA.
"They think there is a lot of support for keeping EPA from regulating greenhouse gasses," Krause said. "We think something is going to happen and we do believe that something will emerge from the efforts and this approach is as good as any."
Krause says by EPA's own estimates eventual greenhouse gas permitting will cost farms and ranches close to $900 million a year.
"Everybody kind of acknowledges that these regulations are going to cost the ag economy and cost jobs," Krause said. "By the same token they also recognize that acting alone the United State through rules like these isn't going to have much impact on greenhouse gas distributions across the globe."
