The first meeting of the Farm Bill Conference Committee since the breakthrough on funding was made last Friday by the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees was to have been held Monday evening. However; due to travel problems and scheduling conflicts, that meeting had to be postponed. The meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
The agreement that was reached on funding the Farm Bill last week makes it seem that the committee is close to completing the bill. However; there are still policy issues that need to be resolved according to House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn.
"The one thing that was outlying is the AGI payment limit issue," Peterson says. "We have not at this point officially resolved but I think we are close."
