Confederation Addresses Potential Feed Shortage

U.S., Mexico, and Canada are worried about feed supplies.

Leaders of the organizations representing pork producers in Canada, Mexico and the United States want their nations to call for NAFTA agricultural ministers to meet and address the issue of feed availability. The leaders say they are worried about the ability to feed should there be a drought or crop disease that affects feed grain supplies.

The Confederation of Mexican Pork, the Canadian Pork Council and the National Pork Producers Council, at a meeting held in Merida, Mexico, last Friday, and expressed their worry about the short and long term availability of feed grain. They warn that if the availability of feed is not addressed in a responsible manner, the ability of hundreds of millions of people to consume pork and other meat and poultry products will be jeopardized.
