China has started investigating complaints that American chicken products are being dumped in China and are unfairly benefiting from subsidies. Chinese companies say U.S. imports of broiler products and chicken products are hurting China's domestic industry.
Washington and Beijing have been accusing each other of protectionism and other trade complaints have been filed. Complaints cover Chinese paper, Chinese-made tires, as well as market access to each others' steel pipes, music and movies.
During the Group of 20 meeting in Pittsburgh last week, the Chinese joined the United States in issuing sweeping promises to fix a malfunctioning global economic system including a vow to reject protectionism in all its forms. At the same time, China played down growing trade tensions with the United States.
