A delegation of Chinese soybean buyers, whose companies represent 85% of all Chinese soybean purchases, is traveling through several Midwestern states this week to better understand soybean production in the United States. In Indiana, American Soybean Association Vice President Alan Kemper hosted the delegation on his farm. Kemper said it was very important to talk about the quality of U.S. soybeans, the meal and oil content, as well as the availability.
One of the concerns of the group deals with the soybean crop being planted later in the season than usual and if that would affect any of the quality. Kemper assured them that wasn't a problem.
Brent Babb, U.S. Soybean Export Council Director of Program Development and Communications, says farm visits like this one help buyers get a better understanding of how the cost of soybeans is arrived at. It helps the buyers better understand what the soybean production costs are, so meeting with soybean farmers is very important to them.
