China, Taiwan, Japan Remain Strong Trading Partners for Corn

In talks between Asian countries and members of the National Corn Growers Association and the U.S. grains Council, NCGA says new uses and supply issues were at the root of talks. NCGA President Ken McCauley called the 10 day trip to China, Taiwan and Japan "very productive."

"The Taiwanese purchase 98.5% of all their corn from the United States," McCauley says. "They're very happy with us, but of course, they're concerned about supply. The Chinese are very interested in DDG. I think they'll increase their DDG imports as soon as they can arrange for regular, reliable shipments. The Japanese will continue to be large grain customers, but they're very interested in ethanol, DDGs and PLA."

Recent export numbers support NCGA's claims that Asia remains a strong trading partner. Inspections of corn, wheat and soybeans and major U.S. ports during the week of June 21 were up 7% from the previous week, including a 21% increase in corn inspections - and most of that corn was sent to Japan and Korea.
