Checkoff Teams with Sodexo to Promote Pork
Culinary professionals prepared a variety of appetizing entrees in front of an appreciative audience at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Pork took center stage this summer with Sodexo Senior Living's "What's the Skinny?" promotion, which offered a healthy new twist on classic comfort foods, from barbecued ribs to bratwurst.
"Our partnership with the Pork Checkoff is an important collaboration that helps us create a variety of menu options that encourage our residents and employees to enjoy flavorful, healthy, seasonal foods," said Natalie Rose-Miller, senior manager of brand marketing for Sodexo's Health Care division.
Sodexo Senior Living, a division of one of the country's largest foodservice providers, supplies foodservice to more than 400 adult retirement communities and assisted living centers across the United States. The "What's the Skinny" promotion in July encouraged people to savor their favorite foods without all the fat that sometimes accompanies these dishes. Through the Sodexo Chef Stage Center Action Station Cooking program, culinary professionals prepared a variety of appetizing entrees in front of an appreciative audience at breakfast, lunch and dinner.
"It's a proven fact: people delight in seeing food prepared tableside, and they love meeting the chef," said Rose-Miller, who noted that Sodexo Senior Living provides meals to more than 100,000 people each day. "This unique dining experience creates so much excitement that the residents look forward to it and tell others about it."
The Checkoff also worked with Sodexo in another summer promotion that set new trends in high-level dining. Sodexo's ode to the pit masters of Memphis, Texas, Kansas City and North Carolina showed diners how to "skinny up" a barbecued pork feast with all the fixings, without sacrificing great taste. The summer promotion celebrated an array of other pork favorites, including Salami & Prosciutto Ham Pesto Bagels, Italian Sausage Frittatas and Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwiches. Featured pork products included tenderloins, ribs, sausage, pork chops, bacon, ham and bratwurst.
"This comprehensive program makes it easier than ever to capitalize on the hottest trends in high level dining," said Rose-Miller, adding that pork products complement fruits, vegetables and whole grains as part of a healthy diet, making them a key ingredient for all of Sodexo's wellness and ethnic seasonal dining promotions.
The Pork Checkoff looks forward to developing more promotions with Sodexo Senior Living, said Howard Greenblatt, national foodservice marketing manager for the National Pork Board. "We've worked with Sodexo Senior Living for 14 years, and they are a great partner who is always willing to develop creative, new ideas to showcase pork."
