Census of Agriculture Partnership with FFA

Agreement signed for collaborative effort in promotion and education.

Published: Oct 29, 2007

The 2007 Census of Agriculture will be mailed in just a few months on Dec. 28, 2007. On Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National FFA Organization signed a strategic partnership for the promotion of and education about the census. Online tools connected to the census will be developed in the partnership to educate members about the importance of the census.

"It has been used for a long time and will continue to be used for both public and private policy affecting agriculture, and therefore will affect the future of these young men and women," says National Agricultural Statistics Service Administrator Ron Bosecker.

In addition to the online tools, NASS and the FFA are working on classroom lesson plans about the census. Bosecker says that the partnership will promote the census from a different perspective.

"The message from FFA will emphasize how much this data is used throughout the agriculture community," Bosecker says. "I think that's not as broadly and widely recognized among producers themselves."
