Seed costs are going up again, giving producers more cause to ponder the best use of their resources devoted to the input. The University of Kentucky developed a spread-sheet to help you compare the real value of the seed you purchase, based on its cost, weight, your desired plant population, its germination rate and purity.
The program graphically compares hybrids and varieties as seed costs and desired plant populations change. The spreadsheet can be used to compare seed sources for corn, soybeans and wheat.
Do you have a spreadsheet that’s made a difference on your operation that you’d be willing to share with other readers? Drop us a line at FarmFutures@farmprogress.com with a description of the spreadsheet. We’ll pay $75 if we feature your farmer-written non-commercial program as our Spreadsheet of the Month.
