Better Outlook For This Year's Brazilian Wheat Crop

Freezing temperatures devastated Brazil's wheat crop in 2006, but the forecast is for ideal conditions in 2007.

Last year, a late winter freeze wiped out more than half of the Brazilian wheat crop, but the weather in Rio Grande do Sul, a major wheat area, is forecast to be very warm and conductive for wheat. More than 70 percent of the wheat in Rio Grande do Sul was lost to the freeze last year.

According to the National Commodities Supply Corporation, when harvest gets underway in October, Brazil is expected to produce 3.8 million tons of wheat this season.
