The U.S. ethanol industry set an all-time monthly production record in July of 258,000 barrels per day (b/d), according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The previous all-time record was 249,000 b/d in June of this year.  Ethanol production was up over 18 percent compared to 218,000 b/d in July of 2004.

The RFA released the following statistics:

"These July statistics show that even before Katrina ethanol use was expanding rapidly in the U.S.," states Renewable Fuels Association President Bob Dinneen. "Following the terrible hurricane, ethanol demand has soared as the petroleum industry searches for affordable sources of octane.  Providing the best bargain in the fuels market, the ethanol industry is doing all it can to meet demand and to bring relief to consumers."
