Assessing Farm Cropping Options

Do side-by-side comparison of a range of crop and tillage alternatives.

Most of this year's harvest is over and it's time to begin planning for 2012. The yield results are in, leading you to consider some changes for your farm next year. That may include changing your crop mix, but it may also involve assessing your tillage options. Kansas State University created a spreadsheet that allows you to do both. The farm spreadsheet allows for a side by side comparison of different crops and tillage options for making profitable decisions, allowing you to print the results, while also seeing your farm options present in graph form.

We’re featuring the spreadsheet as our Farm Futures Spreadsheet of the Month. The 836 kilobyte spreadsheet should work with Excel 2000, 2002, 2007 or Excel XP. You can download it by clicking on the link below..

Do you have a spreadsheet that’s made a difference on your operation that you’d be willing to share with other readers? Drop us a line at FarmFutures@farmprogress.com with a description of the spreadsheet. We’ll pay $75 if we feature your farmer-written non-commercial program as our Spreadsheet of the Month.
