Another Short Term Funding Bill Passes

House passage doesn't mean Senate or President will approve it.

Thursday, the House of Representatives passed another short-term continuing resolution to fund the government. It would keep it open for one additional week and includes $12 billion worth of cuts, while also funding the Defense Department for the remainder of the year. The measure passed 247-181, mostly along party lines.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., says the short term CR is a "non starter" in the Senate and President Obama released a statement that he would veto the bill. Meanwhile, negotiations on a compromise are ongoing. At a news briefing, Reid said he is starting to doubt House Speaker John Boehner's, R-Ohio, willingness to reach a deal. Boehner says there is no agreement on the numbers and no agreement on the policy issues.

Thursday evening, Senator Reid and Speaker Boehner were to return to the White House to continue work on a budget extension. Meanwhile, the House Budget Committee has passed the Republican's fiscal year 2012 budget. Representative Paul Ryan's budget was voted out of committee by a vote of 22 to 16, along party lines. The full House quickly began to debate the 2012 budget.
