While the price of most commodities moved higher this spring, the cost of fertilizers plummeted, and that trend is continuing as farmers struggle to wrap up planting in North America.
Higher grain prices could eventually spur increased demand for nutrients, but so far the fertilizer market is still working off the excess caused by the global economic crisis and last year's run to record prices.
Ammonia again saw the biggest drop on international wholesale markets. Anhydrous dropped more than $50 a ton at the Gulf, trading just above $190 this week.
