The grand finale to the great American Lamb Jam Tour took place last weekend in New York City. ALB brought the four culinary kings and their winning dishes from the four tour cities -- San Francisco, Boston, Seattle and DC -- for the ultimate baaa-ttle! Chef Adam Mali of MarketBar in San Francisco was crowned the 2011 Lamb Jam Master by a panel of esteemed media judges for his Braised Lamb Shank with Lemon Stewed Cannellini Beans and Lavender-Mint Gremolata. More than 200 fans of lamb named Chef Mark Bodinet of Copperleaf Restaurant in Seattle the “People's Choice” for his Grilled Lamb Shoulder Confit with Creamy Parsnips and Preserved Huckleberries.
Fans of lamb also sampled competing dishes from Chef Jason Santos (Boston), Chef John Critchley (Washington, DC) and lambtastic tastes from local lamb lovers at The Meatball Shop and PeraMediterranen Brasserie, Dickson's Farmstand Meats and Old Chatham Sheepherding Cheese Company.
Samples of local beer and wine were paired with competing dishes, and the lamb lovin' attendees enjoyed a DIY (do-it-yourself) lamb rub station, a tattoo parlor, a butchery demonstration and a local artist who was creating pasture caricatures of guests and their flocks.
The American Lamb Board's FY 2012 Lamb Jam Tour kicks off in Seattle on October 23, 2011. For more information and copies of 2011's winning recipe visit www.fansoflamb.com.
