A Cargill soy port terminal on the Amazon River was reopened on Thursday, the company said in a Friday press release. The port, located in Santarem, Para, in Brazil, was closed by a Para federal judge March 23 over disputes about environmental impact studies Cargill was required to provide the government.
A federal judge allowed the port to be reopened, but a final decision on whether or not another environmental impact study is required. If the court decides so, Cargill says it will provide another impact study.
Cargill ships over 1 million tons of soybeans from Santarem annually. Brazil is the second leading soybean exporter behind the U.S.
